Two salesmen from Ahmedabad-based Kala Gold, Yagnik Joshi (33) and Dhanraj Bhangde (51), along with Yagnik’s brother Mohit Joshi (30), staged a robbery to steal jewellery and cash worth Rs 1.90 crore from their employer.
The trio orchestrated the theft near Bantva in Junagadh district, mimicking a plot from a crime series.
The salesmen, tasked with showcasing jewellery samples to clients across Gujarat, initially claimed they were robbed at knifepoint while returning from Kutiyana in Porbandar district. Yagnik reported to police that the robbery occurred on the Bantva-Pajod road after their car got a puncture.
Following an intensive investigation, police identified Mohit Joshi through phone records, linking him to the staged crime. Under interrogation, Mohit confessed to the conspiracy. Superintendent of Police Harshad Mehta confirmed that the three had planned the heist to steal the jewellery and cash.
A team of 100 police officers, led by Mehta, was involved in the investigation, staying at a community wedding hall in Bantva to resolve the case.
