A 55-year-old jeweller who reported his 27-year-old househelp for theft has been charged with rape.
The case began when the jeweller accused the woman of stealing ₹25,000 in cash and jewellery worth over ₹90,000.
According to a report in The Indian Express, a theft case was registered under section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Kalachowki police station.
During the investigation, the househelp admitted to taking ₹15,000 but revealed that she had been sexually assaulted by the jeweller.
She reported that the assaults occurred on multiple occasions after she started working for the jeweller in February 2024.
The report stated that she remained silent due to fear of losing her job and threats from her employer.
The report added that the househelp claimed that on July 7, when the jeweller’s wife was away, the jeweller sexually assaulted her, causing injuries and damaging her clothes.
She alleged that he also assaulted her again on July 18 and threatened to harm her husband and child if she reported the incidents.
The jeweller reportedly attempted to silence her by offering money and gifts, including a gold locket. The jeweller has been charged with rape, and further investigation is ongoing.
