Armed robbers made off with jewellery valued at ₹5 crore from the Balaji Jewellery showroom in Ranipur More, just 50 meters from a police checkpost, on Sunday afternoon.
According to report in Indiatimes, the robbers used pepper spray and country-made guns to intimidate showroom owner Atul Garg and employees around 1:30 p.m. Despite a swift search operation, the robbers escaped.
CCTV footage, widely shared on social media, shows the robbers entering the showroom under the guise of customers before brandishing guns to control the scene.
The report added that Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Singh Dobal stated that the criminals arrived on two motorcycles and that initial estimates put the value of the stolen gold at ₹5 crore.
Police have gathered leads and are optimistic about solving the case. The incident has caused an uproar among local jewellers, leading to a citywide closure of shops in protest.
The report highlighted that Neeraj Gupta, president of the Haridwar Jewellery Association, expressed frustration, noting that a similar robbery occurred three years ago, with police failing to recover all stolen goods.
The report stated that the local business community demands immediate and decisive action to ensure their safety.
