In a significant operation near Bhubaneswar airport, Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials seized approximately 50 kilograms of gold from a van belonging to BVC Logistics (BVCL). The seized gold is estimated to be worth nearly ₹30 crore.
As per a report in Orissadiary.com, BVCL, headquartered in Mumbai, is a prominent player in secure logistics for the diamond and jewelry industry.
The company reportedly handles over half of India’s import, export, and domestic transportation of gems and jewelry.
The release added that as a major logistics provider for the industry, BVCL’s involvement in this incident could have wider implications for the jewelry trade and its transportation practices.
The outcome of this case may prompt a review of security measures and compliance procedures in the sector.
Authorities are expected to thoroughly investigate the origin and destination of the seized gold and the documentation and permits associated with its transportation.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges in regulating and securing the movement of precious metals within India.
