In a bold burglary, four masked men stole 3kg of gold and 7kg of silver, valued at ₹1.25 crore, from Ornamenta Jewellers near Surat’s Ghoddod Road.
The theft took place around 4:15 a.m. when the thieves arrived in a vehicle at the Turning Point Complex and broke into the first-floor store by forcing open the shutter and breaching a steel grill.
Shailesh Soni, the store’s owner, was alerted to the crime on Wednesday morning by a watchman from a nearby society. Upon arriving at the store, Soni found the two watchmen from his complex and a security contractor already present.
After assessing the damage, it was confirmed that 3kg of gold and 7 kg of silver ornaments had been stolen. The burglars also took the store’s CCTV digital video recorder (DVR) to avoid being identified.
However, CCTV footage from the neighbouring society showed four masked men arriving at the scene at 4:15 a.m. Umra police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.
